In which climate science’s Wizard of Wikipedia gets his work published in Science, and then gets to blog about it. (The story: balloon data shows it’s getting warm up there down there – “down there” being Antarctica and “up there” being where the balloons fly.)
Interesting study, sort of. Again, however, it’s of “the last 30 years” – and 30 years ago is when a global 30 year cooling trend (despite increasing CO2) bottomed out. So, it’s not at all surprising that the study replicates what’s been happening in the rest of the world for the past 30 years.
Yep, pretty quickly the entire world will be able to blame *all* their woes on the evil empires of the western world. Not necessarily because of studies like this one, but because of the alarmist reporting of it – designed to sell junk magazines, even magazines that used to be scientific.
To top it off, here’s evidence that existing models are not realistic: “However, because the climate model runs we examined did not reproduce the observed high-latitude changes, we are unable to attribute these changes to increasing greenhouse gas levels at this time.”
“At this time?” Interesting choice of words – as if they are trying to do so…
Back to the drawing board? Maybe this time to include biota changes to *try* to make models realistic? Or maybe just to bias the models to reflect the observations???
Hi John. yes I saw it… seemed fair enough. Shame about the comment quality 🙁
