Would the total volume of trash being produced be an economic indicator? In what ways?
Maybe, but volume is tricky. A $5 bottle of wine is the same size as a $50 bottle of wine.
That said, I’d say that the volume of capital goods tossed (TVs, etc.) will fall in a recession.
